The European Centre for Ethnic Studies organized the launch of the documentary film “Romanian Communities of Northern Maramureș,” produced in partnership with the Civic Forum of Romanians in Covasna, Harghita and Mureș and RP Media Production, an event that took place in Slatina, Transcarpathia region of Ukraine, on July 10, 2025, at the Ethno-Folkloric Center of the NGO “Speranța.” The screening was followed by discussions with members of the local community and by a substantial donation from the Civic Forum, consisting of over 1,500 volumes and Romanian-language teaching materials, including children’s books, Romanian literature, history, religion, and educational aids. The documentary, later released online במסגרת the “Izvoru Mureșului” Summer University, 22nd edition, includes a series of interviews with leaders of the Romanian community on the right bank of the Tisa, including Romanian language teachers, history teachers, priests, school principals, museum representatives, and presidents of Romanian associations in the region. All these testimonies obtained through sociological interviews outline a relevant picture of the state in which the community finds itself today.
