The European Center for Ethnic Studies expresses its fears regarding the excessive use in some information media of Roma images to their detriment. After the abusive use of the term “gipsy” by the Romanian press after this May referendum, in the international information media the Roma literally became the main actor of Romania. One example is the Romanian Music Festival in Luxemburg, which took place in June 2006. We express the conviction that the Romanian authorities in Luxemburg will know how to protect both the image of Romania as well as that of the Roma minority.
